A 51-year-old Widgee man has died following two crashes involving three vehicles near Glastonbury on Thursday night.

A ute travelling west on Glastonbury Road and a 4WD travelling east collided head-on about 6:25pm, critically injuring the Widgee man who was the driver of the ute.

The 4WD left the roadway and stopped in a drain while the ute came to rest in the middle of the road.

A passing motorist stopped to render assistance and was struck by a fourth vehicle.

A 54-year-old Amamoor Creek man – the driver of the 4WD – and the good samaritan, a 28-year-old Lagoon Pocket woman, were both transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the fourth car was transported to Gympie Hospital as a precaution.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the two crashes and are appealing for any witnesses or motorists with dashcam vision to contact police.
