Two community organisations – one in Goomeri, the other in Kilkivan – will share in Gympie Regional Council’s latest round of community grants.

Council announced the successful applicants for Round 2 of its 2021 Community Development Grants Program last week.

In all, 10 non-profit community groups will share $51,111 in grants.

And $17,292 – or roughly one-third – of this funding will go to two groups based in the former Kilkivan Shire.

The successful applicants were:

  • Kilkivan Veterans and Community Men’s Shed Inc – $9300 to build a disability car park
  • Goomeri Golf Club Inc – $7,992 to install a solar power system

Goomeri Golf Club told the Council it wanted a solar system to only reduce the club’s power outlays, but also to reduce the club’s overall carbon footprint.

Kilkivan Men’s Shed said that with an increasingly aged population in Kilkivan, it was important to cater to those in the community facing mobility difficulties.

Both projects are expected to be completed over the next 12 months.
