South Burnett Saints were on the attack in the third quarter of their home game

Victory slipped away for the South Burnett Saints in the last quarter of a keenly contested game against the South Toowoomba Bombers on Saturday in Kingaroy.

Fans gathered at Lyle Vidler Oval for the Saints’ second home game of the 2021 Darling Downs competition.

They were rewarded with a strong display by the home team.

At the end of the first quarter, the Saints were just three points behind; and at the third change they were even closer.

But the Bombers took off in the last quarter, kicking five goals to secure a 10.9-69 to 4.12-36 win.

Saints’ goals were kicked by Daniel Ryan (2), Joshua Freeman and Rory Wilson.

In the women’s game, played earlier, South Toowoomba were too strong, 12.21-93 to 0.1-1.

Next Saturday, the Saints will hit the road again, with both the men’s and women’s team taking on the Goondiwindi Hawks at Riddles Oval in Goondiwindi.

At the end of the third quarter, Bombers were ahead by just two points
