May 11, 2021

South Burnett Saints attracted a good crowd to Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Saturday for their first home game of the 2021 Darling Downs AFL season.

Unfortunately, there was no fairytale ending for the home teams, with University Cougars proving too strong for both the men’s and women’s teams.

In the first game, the South Burnett women enjoyed a strong last quarter but it wasn’t enough to overhaul the Cougars’ lead.

Uni finished on top 12.7-79 to 3.4-22.

Saints’ goals were scored by Kayla Smith, Holly Cormack and Carly Reyes.

In the men’s game, Uni finished ahead 18.23-131 to 9.3-57.

Mitchell Francis and Robert Goodwin both kicked four goals, and Daniel Clacy, one.

The South Burnett teams will be in action next Saturday in Dalby against the Swans.
