The Burrandowan Picnic Race Club will be holding its annual race meeting at the Burrandowan Racecourse, 66km west of Kingaroy on Saturday (May 8).

Crowds have been gathering at Burrandowan on the second Saturday in May since 1922 to take in the atmosphere of a bush picnic race meeting.

Last year was the exception, of course, with COVID-19 scuttling the traditional South Burnett event.

The annual meeting generates funds for worthy causes and many food and drink outlets on the course are run by local service clubs to assist their own community projects.

A bus will be running from Kingaroy at 10:30am and again at noon, and camping is available at the track for Saturday night (swags and tents only).

Racing begins at 1:35pm and there’s a five-race card.

After the last race is run at 4:35pm, the course’s pit-fired BBQs will light up and there’ll be live entertainment from Ryza that will run until late into the night.

Patrons are reminded there are no ATMs and no mobile coverage at the track, so they should bring cash.

Entry to this year’s meeting is $25 per head (plus booking fee) and tickets must be booked in advance online.
