The 2020 Darling Downs AFL competition kicked off at the weekend, with the two South Burnett teams in action away from the region.

The Saints’ women began the year on a winning note, downing the Dalby Swans at Dalby: 5.9-39 to 2.4-16.

South Burnett led at every change, surviving a Dalby comeback in the second quarter.

Saints’ goals were kicked by Olivia Eriksen, Zarli Treskow, Reanna Fenton, Rosie Pyke and Kayla Smith.

The Saints’ men weren’t so lucky, meeting a fired-up Warwick Redbacks before a home crowd at Warwick.

Redbacks were victorious: 22.15-147 to 6.8-44.

South Burnett goal kickers were Keegan Wright (2), Anthony Lindholm and Robert Goodwin.

Next Saturday, both the men’s and women’s teams will be in action at Rockville Oval in Toowoomba, taking on the Toowoomba Tigers.
