The Golden Spurs Hotel in Proston has jumped on board a great idea and is offering a string of community grants to local not-for-profit groups.

Licensee Di Grant told southburnett.com.au she was inspired by the grant program that the Fitzroy Hotel unveiled recently in Nanango.

“I saw what they were doing and thought ‘what a brilliant idea, that’s awesome’,” Di said.

The Golden Spurs will be offering a series of grants, capped at a maximum of $1000.

To be eligible to apply, groups or organisations must be located in Proston (although applications from groups in Hivesville will also be considered).

Not-for-profit groups invited to apply include sporting groups or clubs; emergency services, school P&Cs and kindys, and other community groups.

“I want to hear what it is that you want to spend the money on,” Di said.

“What benefit will the not-for-profit group and the community get out of it?”

Di said she believed the program was a great way for the Golden Spurs Hotel to support the community that supports it.

Applications – which will be treated in confidence – will close on April 30.

The challenge has now gone out to other South Burnett hotels.

“It would be great if other venues would do the same,” Di said.
