Thieves who broke into the clubhouse at Ian “Bunny” Pearce Oval in Blackbutt at the weekend trashed the building, pouring tins of paint on trophies and cabinets and smashing every window.

The clubhouse housed trophies for the local cricket club as well as the Blackbutt Timbertowners rugby league club.

A police spokesperson said there was extensive damage in the building.

It is believed the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, with neighbours reporting hearing banging sounds about 3:45pm.

There was no damage when the building was last checked on Friday afternoon.

The thieves stole a small TV from the clubhouse and also broke into a garden shed.

Police forensic officers have tested items left behind for fingerprints and investigations are continuing.

The clubhouse is located at the end of Railway Street.

Police have appealed for anyone in the area who may have CCTV footage from Saturday afternoon to contact them.

Information can also be given anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800-333-000.
