Rockin’ Our Abilities’ Sonia McMahon with drummer Jarrod Edwards, from near Proston

There’s a bunch of musicians – and budding musicians – who are really “rockin” at Murgon on Thursdays.

The “Rockin Our Abilities” group, led by Sonia McMahon, meets at the Uniting Church Hall in Gore Street from 9:00am to 1:00pm during school terms.

Sonia told southburnett.com.au she has worked with a similar music program for people with disabilities on the Sunshine Coast, and recognised there was a gap in the South Burnett.

“I was part of the music program at Sunshine Butterflies and put together their show for family and friends,” she said.

“There were so many magic moments and that’s when I knew I could do it here.”

The participants have a lot of fun while they are playing along to videos or singing karaoke.

Drummer Jarrod Edwards – who also plays in Proston group “Miss Matched” – keeps everyone in time.

Carers and relatives also join in the fun.

“We use YouTube videos and everyone gets to choose their own song,” Sonia said.

“But there’s no pressure to sing or perform. We do a lot of lip syncing!”

For more information, ring Sonia on 0427-137-140.
