Two rescue choppers were called to a serious head-on collision at South Nanango on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash on Nanango-Tarong Road, near the Hazeldean Road intersection, occurred just before 3:00pm.

A blue sedan and a dark grey stationwagon collided.

Police, ambulance and fire crews attended.

Traffic was diverted via Berlins Road to allow the RACQ LifeFlight helicopter and the QGAir helicopter to land on the roadway.

The LifeFlight chopper flew a 24-year-old woman, the driver of the blue sedan, to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A 23-year-old woman, the driver of the grey vehicle, was airlifted by QGAir to the Royal Brisbane Hospital. She was accompanied by a child who had no visible injuries.

A 38-year-old male passenger was provided first aid at the scene by QAS paramedics.

The Police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
