Fragments of the COVID-19 virus have been detected at four new locations in Queensland.

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said the positive sewage results collected on December 29-30 were particularly concerning in light of the ongoing situation in NSW and Victoria.

The viral fragments were detected at wastewater treatment plants at Warwick, Stanthorpe, Loganholme and Cairns.

Dr Young called on residents in these four areas to get tested immediately if they have any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild.
