A local fire ban in place in the South Burnett, Cherbourg, Gympie and North Burnett council areas has been extended.

A QFES spokesperson said on Monday that due to the current conditions, the fire ban in the North Coast region has been extended until 11:55pm on Friday (December 11).

The North Coast region also includes Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, Sunshine Coast and Noosa council areas.

Fire bans are also in place in adjacent council areas:

  • Somerset has been extended until 11:59pm on December 11
  • Toowoomba and Western Downs until 11:55pm on December 8

South Burnett firefighters were called to a blaze burning near Wengenville-Glencliffe Road at Wengenville on Sunday afternoon.

The alert went out just before 1:15pm.

At  2:00pm, there were seven fire crews at the fire.

Earthmoving equipment and waterbombing supported rural and urban crews on the ground.

On Monday morning, the area was being patrolled by fire crews.
