Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington says she is very concerned the State Government is borrowing $28 billion to boost economic recovery in Queensland, after stating during the election campaign they would borrow “only” $4 billion.

Mrs Frecklington told southburnett.com.au she was worried was the recent Budget included so few new projects but the government was committing to borrow so much.

This was reflected in her Nanango electorate, where needed projects – such as planning for the Barlil Weir – had been overlooked.

“We could have had more road projects, we could become a real hub for health services – more nurses, more doctors, more renal beds,” she said.

Mrs Frecklington pointed to the poor “return on investment” highlighted by Opposition Leader David Crisafulli in his Budget Reply speech.

Mr Crisafulli told State Parliament Queensland was borrowing $28 billion “yet the value of the State is stagnant”.

Mrs Frecklington said the State Government kept on comparing Queensland with NSW, but NSW was getting a 16 per cent increase in its net worth through its government spending while Queensland’s worth had been estimated to grow by just 0.08 per cent.

  1. This is exactly why the South Burnett Regional Council needs to have a good look at themselves! Life in Queensland seems as if it will need to get tougher yet before things are on an even keel once again!
