The State Budget has confirmed funding for a number of road projects in the South Burnett region, although some of the dollars have been allocated simply for preliminary planning.

Highlights include:

  • The design of the replacement for the single-lane John Peterson Bridge on Mundubbera-Durong Road at Derri Derra, a joint Federal-State-funded project
  • Planning and design work for upgrades to the D’Aguilar Highway between Yarraman and Kingaroy
  • Planning to replace the burned Running Creek Bridge on Brooweena-Woolooga Road at Woolooga

Money has also be allocated to begin construction of the joint Federal-State Government upgrade of the Wide Bay Highway-Bruce Highway intersection at Bells Bridge

Other projects either approved for 2020-21 or pencilled in for 2022-2024 include:

  • Improve safety on Brooweena-Woolooga Road
  • Planning to replace the Eel Creek bridge on Gympie-Woolooga Road
  • Planning for a new Wide Bay Creek Bridge on Kilkivan-Tansey Road
  • Widen and seal Boondooma Road at Mundubbera
  • Construct a footpath between Avoca and Oliver Bond streets on Youngman Street, Kingaroy
  • Install audio-tactile line marking on Burnett Highway between Nanango and Goomeri
  • Widen Byee Road at Byee
  • Replace G.S. Bond Bridge on Chinchilla-Wondai Road
  • Widen priority sections of D’Aguilar Highway between Yarraman and Kingaroy
  • Construct a footpath on Haly Street, Kingaroy between Jarrah and Fisher streets
  • Begin planning to replace the Tanduringie Creek Bridge on Kingaroy-Cooyar Road at Tanduringie
  • Upgrade a major culvert on the Murgon-Gayndah Road
  • Widen and overlay sections of Kumbia-Brooklands Road
  • Construct a new sealed section on Memerambi-Barkers Creek Road
  • Widen a section of Peterson Drive, Taabinga
  • Construct a footpath on Tessmanns Road in Kingaroy, between Doonkuna and Ivy streets
  • Design a shared path from Youngman to Somerset Street (rail trail)

Around schools, work planned includes:

  • Construct a footpath outside Goomeri State School
  • Complete upgrade of school set-down facilities at Wheatlands State School
  • Upgrade pedestrian facilities on Burnett and Drayton streets outside Nanango State School and construct a pedestrian bridge
  • Install a pedestrian refuge in Dutton Street outside Murgon State High School
  • Upgrade passenger set-down facility in Kent Street, Kingaroy, outside St Mary’s Catholic College
  • Upgrade passenger set-down facility outside Wondai State School
  • Construct footpath in Markwell and William streets to Youngman Street for Kingaroy State School
  • Upgrade passenger set-down on Railway Terrace outside Taabinga State School
  • Construct footpath on William and Avoca streets for Kingaroy State High School
