Wondai Show enjoyed a bumper year in 2019 but was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic

December 3, 2020

South Burnett shows cancelled because of COVID-19 will receive an early Christmas present from the Federal Government.

Kingaroy Show will receive $70,000 while Nanango and Wondai shows will each receive $15,000.

Agriculture Minister and Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said the government was keen to ensure show societies were in the best shape possible to continue in 2021.

“These events bring our families and farmers together, build community spirit and help bridge the divide between country and city,” Mr Littleproud said.

Shows were able to claim up to $10,000 if their attendance last year was less than 2000, up to $15,000 if their attendance was between 2000 and 4999 and up to $70,000 if their attendance was more than 5000.

In the local region, Cooyar and Bell shows (in the Darling Downs sub-chamber) and Proston and Murgon shows (in the South Burnett sub-chamber) went ahead and were therefore ineligible for this special COVID funding.
