Toowoomba Regional Council is urging Yarraman residents to have a say about a concept design for an upgraded waste management facility for the town.

Residents can provide feedback on the new design until 5:00pm on Friday, December 11, through the TRC’s Your Say page

Cr Nancy Sommerfield said the upgraded waste transfer facility would be a cleaner, neater and tidier waste solution.

“The Yarraman upgrade would see the construction of our region’s first Tier 4 waste management facility,” Cr Sommerfield said.

“The new facility would be built on the site of the existing landfill and designed as a smaller version of the region’s state-of-the-art flagship, the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility.

“Transfer stations reduce the need for regional landfills ensuring better environmental outcomes for the community.

“The new design allows waste to be stored on hardstand pavement, and transported to landfill locations offsite, reducing the extent of odour, dust, and animal/rodent control required.

“Litter prevention controls would also be in place to contain windblown litter from the facility and prevent it from entering drains.

“The YourSay page contains a virtual flythrough of the proposed facility in Yarraman so residents can quickly understand the look and feel of the site.

“We would like to hear from the community, what you like or don’t like about the design and if there is anything you would like to improve.

“Make haste, and don’t waste the opportunity to have your say on the new Yarraman Waste Management Facility.”

Cr Rebecca Vonhoff said the TRC had 23 waste management facilities throughout the region, the highest number of any local government in Queensland.

“A number of our older regional landfills are reaching capacity and are not able to be upgraded due to the sites being unsuitable for future development,” Cr Vonhoff said.

“As a result, Council will replace some sites with new, modern waste transfer facilities that are convenient for each community.

“As part of our integrated waste management network, our facilities will ensure that 98% of residents live within a 20-minute drive from a waste management facility.”
