MP Deb Frecklington opened the second round of her Nanango Electorate Year 12 School Leaver’s Bursary on Thursday to help support local students pursuing further study or qualifications after Year 12.

Mrs Frecklington said the inaugural bursary, offered in 2019, was a great success and she wanted to continue supporting the region’s school leavers.

“It is always a major step for our Year 12 school leavers who must travel away for university, TAFE or other training and I wanted to continue to support them through this bursary,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“The bursary is worth $1000 and aims to provide financial assistance with the costs associated with moving to their place of learning, tools, the purchase of books, IT or other necessary requirements.

“It provides me with an opportunity to show my support for young people who are passionate about furthering their skills and education, and who may not otherwise be able to afford to live away from home.”

Applications are open to all Year 12 students who live in the Nanango Electorate.

They will close at the end of January.

“Five applicants will be shortlisted and the successful recipient will be selected through a panel interview in early February,” Mrs Frecklington said.

Applications can be made through the MP’s website or by contacting the Electorate Office on (07) 4190-7100 for Bursary guidelines.
