A Fire Weather warning was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology on Thursday afternoon for the Darling Downs, Granite Belt, Maranoa and Warrego districts.

A Severe Fire Danger has been predicted for these areas on Friday, with a Very High rating in place for the Wide Bay-Burnett.

Meteorologist Kimba Wong said strengthening winds ahead of a trough approaching from the west – combined with a warm and very dry air mass – would lead to the heightened fire dangers.

The fire risk was also expected to remain high across the weekend due to gusty winds which were expected to pick up on Friday.

Ms Wong said Friday would be a warm day across south-east Queensland but temperatures were expected to drop on Saturday.

A cold front would bring much cooler conditions to the south-east on Saturday with a noticeable wind chill.

A late season frost was also possible about the Granite Belt on Sunday and Monday mornings.

Temperatures will bounce back to about average next week.
