Two Yarraman community groups will receive funding from Toowoomba Regional Council in the latest round of council’s Community Grants Program.

The round distributed $145,000 among 50 community groups.

A TRC spokesperson said there had been a big drop in the usual number of applications for the first round of the 2020-21 grants, probably due to the effects of COVID-19 on community events.

Fourteen applications which failed to receive funding were either incomplete or failed to meet the program’s guidelines.

TRC Councillors voted to approve the funding for successful applicants at Wednesday’s committee meeting.

The successful Yarraman projects were:

  • Yarraman and District Historical Society – $1956 to repair the windows of the Rocky Creek School building to comply with safety issues and help preserve its structure
  • Yarraman Sporting Group – $528 to purchase soccer balls, tennis kits and hockey sets to allow more community members to be involved in the group’s activities
