Toowoomba Regional Council won the regional award for Large Employer of the Year (200 or more full-time staff)

September 11, 2020

Toowoomba Regional Council took out the “Large Employer Of The Year Award” at the Queensland Training Awards (Darling Downs South West Region) announced on Friday morning.

For the first time in the award’s 59-year history, the regional winners were announced online instead of at a public function due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister for Training and Skills Development Shannon Fentiman congratulated all the finalists, including those who did not win regional awards.

“All finalists should be exceptionally proud of your achievements. You’re inspiring!” she said.

She said the awards celebrate and acknowledge the top training achievers and employers.

More than 700 individuals, businesses, community organisations and training providers nominated for awards across Queensland.

The South Burnett had a number of finalists in the Darling Downs South West Region (details below), including:

  • FBI – Favier Building Industries, from Kingaroy, in the Small Employer of the Year category (for 19 or fewer staff)
  • South Burnett Regional Council, in the Large Employer of the Year category (200 or more full-time staff)
  • Avril Gray, from Cherbourg, and Jacinta Rockemer, from Goomeri.

Regional award winners will now be selected to compete for State awards, and if successful there, compete at a national level.
