Crowds at last year’s Avocado Festival … the Bazaar would have been held in the same location as the festival markets

COVID-19 smashed plans for this year’s Blackbutt Avocado Festival and has now put an end to the “Top Of The Blackbutt Range Bazaar” which was to have been run in its place.

The Bazaar markets were going to be held on the festival grounds at the Blackbutt railhead on October 4, but organisers announced on Tuesday the event had been scrapped.

Committee chairman Jeff Connor said the new event had been planned in an effort to boost confidence and support local businesses.

“However, when the South Burnett was identified as a region required to increase restrictions, the confidence of our community took another hit, and so did some of the confidence from travellers looking to make the South Burnett home for the October long weekend,” Jeff said.

He said the committee has changed its priority from putting on an event to focusing on the needs of the Blackbutt community and “its sentiment on safety”.
