The Federal Government is supporting a trial to determine the most suitable system to support digital traceability in the export supply chain of melons.

Agriculture Minister David Littleproud said the Australian Melon Association had been awarded $296,190 funding through the Traceability Grants Program.

“A state-of-the-art digital system for clear traceability of our premium Aussie melons will open up more export opportunities,” Minister Littleproud said.

“We gain a market edge if our exporters can access the latest digital traceability innovations to demonstrate to overseas customers clear provenance and care in the supply chain.

“A traceability system suitable for the melon export supply chain could also be applied to other fresh produce such as pineapples, pumpkins and cabbages.

“The project will include growers, wholesalers, exporters, importers and retailers, enabling each step in the supply chain to add value in recording and managing the product.
