No New Cases In Qld

Queensland has recorded no new confirmed cases of COVID-19, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced on Tuesday morning.

However, the Premier again urged people with any symptoms at all to get tested.

She said the testing turnaround time for results was about 30 hours because of the large number of swabs being submitted; 8059 tests were done in the past 24 hours – 6278 of those were in areas linked to the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre spike.

The Premier admitted there had been queues at some testing sites but she thanked people for their patience.

Health Minister Dr Steve Miles said he had breathed a sigh relief with the news there were no new cases but he warned there was “still a long way to go before we know we have controlled this possible outbreak”.

There are now 18 active cases in Queensland.

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said there were still the five original cases associated with the Detention Centre staff plus five cases among their immediate households or relatives.

There were no cases of community transmission so far.

“It is still a bit early, though, to be seeing those community cases so it is really important that everyone with any symptom at all comes forward and gets tested,” she said.

Anyone who has been to any of these locations at these times should monitor their health and, if they develop even the mildest of COVID-19 symptoms, get tested.
