South Burnett Saints are holding down fourth spot on the Allied Pickfords Cup ladder at the midpoint of the 10-round Darling Downs AFL competition.

The Saints men have secured two wins and two losses (plus a bye round) so far in the COVID-shortened fixtures rounds.

It was a long trip to Goondiwindi for the boys at the weekend.

Playing without James Packer and Shane Pukallus – who lined up for the Lions Academy U18s against the Suns Academy at Brendale – the Saints men were kept goalless by the unbeaten competition leaders, Goondiwindi Hawks.

The final scoreline was 17.11-113 to 0.6-6.

The Saints women fared better against the Hawks, losing by just three goals: 6.7-43 to 3.7-25.

Saints’ goal kickers were Rosie Pyke, Brianna Pogany and Hayley Ellison.

Next Saturday, both Saints’ teams will be playing away again.

The men will be taking on Coolaroo at Rockville Oval in Toowoomba while the women will face South Toowoomba at Heritage Oval.
