A fire which razed St Leo’s Catholic Church in Haden earlier this month was deliberately lit.

Crows Nest police have confirmed investigations are continuing into the blaze which erupted in the early hours of June 7.

The wooden building on Boundary Road was completely destroyed.

Both urban and rural fire crews were called but could not save the historic building which was engulfed in flames.

St Leo’s was opened in 1931 and serviced parishioners from as far away as Cooyar and Peranga.

Emergency services were called at 12:10am on June 7.

Paramedics were on standby but no patients required assistance.
