Last year’s premiers Panthers won’t be getting a chance to defend their title after the scrapping of the 2020 South Burnett Women’s competition on Monday

COVID-19 restrictions have dashed hopes a junior soccer competition could go ahead in a restricted form in the South Burnett this year.

Football South Burnett made the difficult decision on Monday night to scrap plans to hold the Under 12/13 and Cadet competitions.

The Senior Women’s competition was also cancelled.

“The two main reasons were low player numbers and also trying to work with the COVID-19 restrictions,” a Football South Burnett spokesperson said.

“The Senior Men are going to try to formulate a plan to play a small-sided competition in Kingaroy.

“Thank you to all clubs and their volunteers who have been scratching to try to give our players a competition.”

Under 6s to Under 11s games were cancelled earlier in June.

One Response to "All Junior Soccer Cancelled"

  1. Football Wide Bay is playing all games in all age groups. If we can police COVID restrictions in such a big area and with more clubs and players, it should be a hell of a lot easier in the South Burnett. I believe not enough has been done to try and get the competition launched and I believe it will harm the sport in the South Burnett in years to come.
