Ten young South Burnett athletes will be heading off to Brisbane next week to compete in the Little Athletics Queensland State Championships.

The youngsters all earned the right to take part in the championships after shining at the Regional Championships which were held at the Sunshine Coast University campus at Sippy Downs on February 22-23.

They returned from this competition with a swag of medals and personal best times.

The State Championships will be held at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre at Nathan (probably better known by its old names of QEII or ANZ Stadium) from  March 13-15.

The South Burnett contingent will be competing in age groups ranging from Under 9 to Under 16:

  • Under 9 – Emily Bolden – shot put, discus
  • Under 11 – Alex Farmilo – 400m
  • Under 11 – Jenali Bolden – shot put, discus, 100m, 80m hurdles, triple jump
  • Under 11 – Ryan Mollenhauer – shot put, triple jump
  • Under 12 – Georgia Kapernick – 800m, 80m hurdles
  • Under 12 – Harvey Sawtell – discus
  • Under 12 – Nicole Gunston – 400m
  • Under 13 – Zach Farmilo – 400m
  • Under 14 – Josh Freeman – discus, shot put, triple jump
  • Under 16 – Abbey Kapernick – long jump, high jump, 90m hurdles
