Cattle Prices Lift At Murgon Sale

Eight hundred cattle were yarded in Murgon on Tuesday, February 11, with all descriptions selling to very dear rates.

Cattle were drawn from Mundubbera, Gayndah, Nanango, Durong, Boondooma, Proston, Kingaroy, Kilkivan and the Murgon area.

Sale results:

  • Bulls sold to $3.20/kg and $2560
  • Bullocks sold to $3.78/kg and $2257
  • Heavy Cows over 500kg topped at $3.06/kg and $1960, averaging $2.86/kg
  • Cows 400-500kg sold to $2.96/kg for a $2.63/kg average
  • Cows under 400kg topped at $3.00/kg
  • Export heifers sold to $3.49/kg and $1777
  • Local Charolais cross steers sold for $3.69/kg to return $1764
  • Charbray steers from Goomeri sold for $3.70/kg for $1700
  • 375kg Droughtmaster steers from Goomeri sold for $1400 at $3.73/kg
  • Two pens of Droughtmaster cross steers from Proston sold for $3.71/kg and $3.57/kg to return $1148 and $1102, respectively
  • Hereford steers from Manumbar weighing 397kg sold for $1411 at $3.55/kg
  • 282kg Charbray steers from Windera sold to $3.90/kg to return $1103
  • Droughtmaster steers from Tansey sold for $955 at $3.71/kg
  • Charolais cross weaner steers from Mt Perry sold for $3.97/kg and $612
  • Two pens of local Brangus cross weaner steers sold for $3.89/kg for $755 and $676
  • Light Brahman cross weaner steers weighing 178kg sold for $3.82/kg and $682
  • 302kg Droughtmaster heifers from Nanango sold for $3.44/kg for $1040
  • Angus cross heifers from Wondai weighing 321kg sold for $3.37/kg and $1083
  • Santa heifers from Goomeri also weighing 321kg sold to $1080 at $3.36/kg
  • 293kg Droughtmaster cross heifers from Proston sold for $988 at $3.37/kg
  • 246kg Angus cross heifers from Durong sold for $852 and $3.45/kg
  • Angus cross heifers from Wondai sold for $982 at $3.32/kg
  • Charbray weaner heifers from Durong sold for $3.43/kg and $737
  • 217kg Shorthorn cross weaner heifers sold for $742 at $3.41/kg
  • A big percentage of better quality weaner heifers sold from $3.00 to $3.30 per kilogram
  • Medium framed Brahman cows and calves sold to $990

The next Murgon cattle sale is on Tuesday, February 25, at 8:00am.
