Retiring Nanango Lions Club treasurer Rob Ashby with club president Sue Cox, incoming treasurer MaryLou Brown and secretary Jenny Robinson
Cr Roz Frohloff gave Rob a thank you hug

A special presentation was made to a special member at the Nanango Lions Club’s “Den” in George Street on Monday night.

Rob Ashby, 86, joined the Nanango Lions in 1975.

Over the years he’s held a few roles, including president and secretary, but mostly he’s been treasurer.

In fact, the club reckons he’s clocked up a total of 40 years in the role.

On Monday night, he handed over the books to fellow member, MaryLou Brown, who was quite adamant she won’t be still doing it in 40 years.

“I’d be 100!” she joked.

District 201Q4 Zone 4 chair Julie Clifford was on hand for the presentation, and thanked Rob for all the work he had done for Lions over the years.

And the presentation? A framed certificate and some collectable coins … a fitting present for a treasurer!

  1. Congratulations Rob,

A job well done. You have been there a long time (40 plus years) and you are liked by everyone.

Enjoy your time away from the books.

  2. Congratulations Rob. Long time… no see.

I’m the ghost of your Christmases past … but haven’t seen you for about 50 years.

Gee, you’re looking old, son (but you ought to see me!)

All the best for a well-earned rest. Time to put the feet up.

  3. Rob, it’s a long time since 1956 when I was mistaken for you and was congratulated on your coming wedding to Midge! You and I have aged at about the same level. Best wishes, Peter K.
