Police investigations are continuing into the alleged assault of a 12-year-old Tarong girl in Nanango last Tuesday (November 26).

The girl, a student at Nanango State High School, was flown to the Queensland Children’s Hospital with a suspected fractured C7 vertebra but has since been released from hospital after being treated for soft tissue injuries.

The incident is alleged to have occurred in the grounds of the high school.

Officer-in-charge of Nanango Police, Sergeant Brett Smith, said the girl and her mother had spoken to police.

The matter has now been referred to the Child Protection Unit in Kingaroy for further investigation.

Police have spoken to a number of people and taken statements, however they are appealing for any other witnesses to come forward.

UPDATE December 6: Police have charged two children with assault occasioning bodily harm.

They have been dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
