The official launch of the new multi-million dollar Kilkivan Showgrounds and Equestrian Centre will occur on September 7.
Gympie Mayor Mick Curran said the Kilkivan Showgrounds and Equestrian Centre would draw competitors in a variety of equestrian disciplines from across Australia and put Kilkivan firmly on the map as one of the “go-to places” for high level equestrian sport competition.
“I would encourage you all to come and see for yourself, the scale and versatility this project offers our community,” Mayor Curran said.
“The Kilkivan Showgrounds and Equestrian Centre is more than just a facility for equestrian athletes.
“It will provide a stimulus to our economy by attracting competitors from outside our region.
“But, more importantly, it will provide an avenue for many of our outstanding local riders to train and compete close to home.
“Many of these riders have the potential to represent our region on the national and even international stage so it is important we support them in any way we can.
“The Kilkivan Showgrounds and Equestrian Centre goes a long way to providing that support.
“I would like to acknowledge the contribution of the Queensland Government to this project.
“Over $1 million was provided from the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.”
The opening of the Kilkivan Showgrounds and Equestrian Centre will coincide with the Kilkivan Great Horse Ride.
There will be a number of activities on the day including barrel racing and hobby horse demonstrations, inflatable rides, the mini kids’ bouncy rodeo show, whip cracking demonstrations and the Rooftop Express horsemanship show.
Entry to this event will be free.
