Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council has invited nominations from the community to fill a vacancy caused by the recent death of Cr Alana Purcell.
Cr Purcell died on August 8; her funeral is being held in Cherbourg on Friday (August 23).
The successful applicant for the Councillor role will be appointed by resolution at Cherbourg’s September Council meeting and will serve until the March 2020 Local Government elections.
Interested applicants must meet certain qualifications detailed in Section 152 of the Local Government Act 2009, including being enrolled on the Electoral Roll and residing in the Local Government Area (ie. Cherbourg).
An application kit is available at the Cherbourg Council office.
Interested applicants must submit a written Expression of Interest outlining why they wish to fill the vacancy, in no more than 500 words.
Applications must be received by September 12.

Advertising to fill the position of Cherbourg Council chief executive officer will begin soon.
Mr Zala said the Local Government Association of Queensland’s subsidiary, Peak Services, would be handling the advertising for the position.
Cherbourg Council is also currently looking to hire a suitably qualified and experienced Human Resources adviser to liaise with the CEO and senior management team on all HR matters.
Applicants should have – or have started – a tertiary degree in Human Resources.
