A funeral service will be held in Cherbourg next week for much-loved Cherbourg councillor Alana Purcell who died on August 8 after a long illness.

Cr Purcell was elected to Council in March 2016.

Despite being confined to a wheelchair as the result of a back injury, Cr Purcell has been an active and inspirational part of the South Burnett community for many years – taking part in the annual Reconciliation Fun Run as well as International Women’s Day, NAIDOC and other events in Cherbourg, Murgon and Kingaroy.

She was also a founding member of the Many Threads women’s group, which meets regularly at the Cherbourg Historical Precinct.

Cr Purcell is survived by her three daughters: Tegan, Kaysee and Francine.

Her funeral will be held at the Cherbourg AIM Church from 10:00am on Friday (August 23), followed by interment in Cherbourg Cemetery.
