The State Government has provided $9000 in bursaries to the Queensland Rural Regional and Remote Women’s Network (QRRRWN) for their annual conference at Goondiwindi in September.

“These bursaries will provide rural women facing financial difficulties with the means to attend the QRRRWN conference,” Agriculture Minister Mark Furner said.

“We know there’s an ongoing severe drought across 65 per cent of Queensland and the flooding event in the north and northwest has put enormous pressure on many rural families.”

The bursaries will be provided through the Drought Relief Assistance Scheme and will cover travel and accommodation costs as well as registration fees for the  “Thriving Women, Thriving Regions” conference on September 12-14.

Mr Furner said QRRRWN conducted valuable work supporting rural women in times of need.

“They undertake projects to build women’s capacities, strengthen connections between inspiring women and empower networks to enable members to do more for themselves and their communities,” he said.

“I hope the bursary recipients will get a chance at the conference to hear from some thought-provoking and powerful speakers on a wide range of topics.

“More importantly, it’s a chance for these women to rejuvenate, draw support and companionship from each other and be empowered to go back to help their rural communities grow in good times and in bad.”

The bursary recipients will be selected by QRRRWN.

Applications close on Sunday (August 25) with successful applicants notified on Tuesday (August 27).
