On June 6, Blackbutt police booked a 20-year-old Burpengary man who was detected travelling at 165km/h in a 100km/h zone on the D’Aguilar Highway at Gilla.

He was issued an infringement notice for $1218, lost eight demerit points and his vehicle was immobilised for seven days.

“This speed was not only excessive but very dangerous and a drivers reaction time needed to stop is greatly reduced when travelling at these speeds,” Sgt McDowell said.

Sgt McDowell said Blackbutt Police have been regularly receiving complaints of break-and-enters and thefts from rural properties.

He said fuel was being stolen as well as items of value which had been stored in the open or within quick and easy access to opportunistic offenders.

“I urge everyone, be it in a rural or residential setting, to lock up valuables and consider investing in CCTV as an added security measure,” Sgt McDowell said.

Anyone who has any information regarding any matter is urged to contact police.
