“Little ol’ Kingaroy, is the best in Australia!”

Kingaroy Speedway Club members are over the moon that their Kingaroy Showgrounds track has been recognised at national awards.

Tanya Barron told southburnett.com.au a group of 10 people travelled to Adelaide for the Speedway Australia national awards, which were announced on Saturday night.

“We were the Most Improved Track in 2017. This year we were named Track Of The Year,”  Tanya said.

“Imagine that … little ol’ Kingaroy is the best in Australia!”

The awards were announced during a dinner at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

Tanya said probably $250,000 to $300,000 – including grants and club funds – had been spent at the track over the past few years as well as thousands of hours of work by volunteers.

Before the start of the latest racing season, the old track surface was taken out and replaced with clay at a cost of more than $10,000.

Tanya thanked Seiler Earthmoving and Conpak Earthmoving for the work they had done on the track which had led to some very fast racing this season and track records broken.

Other work that has been completed over recent years included new arena lighting, the erection of a machinery shed in the pits and new fencing.

The club has also introduced a merchandise stall which has proved very popular with race fans.

Tanya said the club had more worked planned, including more fencing and the construction of a new toilet block at the back of the spectator hill.

Club members have another reason to be very proud of their Track Of The Year award.

“All the previous winners have been ‘promoter tracks’,” Tanya said.

“We are just a club. All of us have full-time jobs and family commitments as well as the track.”
