Firefighters were called to a large vegetation fire burning near Murray Parade at Cherbourg on Friday afternoon.

A QFES spokesperson said firefighters worked with Cherbourg Council workers and the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service to create firebreaks to contain the blaze, which covered four to five hectares.

Firefighters left the incident in the hands of the QPWS about 4:30pm, but continued to patrol the area.

The incident was declared closed on Saturday.
