Brownlow Medallist and triple premiership player Jason Akermanis will be the special guest at the South Burnett Saints’ annual Heritage Day on May 25.

Akermanis played more than 300 games – and kicked 421 goals – for the Brisbane Bears, Brisbane Lions and Western Bulldogs during his 15-year AFL career.

The Heritage Day at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy will feature games against Warwick (men) and Toowoomba Tigers (women).

The Saints will also be unveiling their new “old” heritage jersey, featuring the first ever strip worn by a South Burnett Aussie Rules team, back in 1981.

The team’s old Heritage jumpers will be auctioned off that night at the Carrollee Hotel as a fundraiser for the club.

The Saints’ slow start to the 2019 season continued at the weekend when they travelled to Toowoomba to play the South Toowoomba Bombers in the Darling Downs AFL competition.

The final score was 19.15-129 to 6.9-45.

South Burnett goals were kicked by Jarryd Hill (2), Adam Bowater (2), Sheldon Webber and Russell Thompson.

The South Burnett team, who have lost three from three so far, will be hoping their luck improves at home this weekend.

The Saints will host old rivals, the Chinchilla Suns, on Saturday at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy at 3:30pm.
