Tingoora State School is one of 538 schools across Australia which has been selected to receive a Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant.

The school will use the grant to help develop a vegetable garden to encourage a lifelong love of gardening and healthy eating.

The project will involve re-working the existing aged and dysfunctional vegetable garden to include four wicking beds to minimise water use.

The Woolworths Junior Landcare Grants program – which offers grants of up to $1000 – aims to inspire students with hand-on projects focusing on sustainable food production, improving waste management practices and enhancing native habitats.

It is being funded with proceeds from the sale of the Woolworths’ reusable “Bag For Good” shopping bags.

The “Bag For Good” bags were launched on June 20 last year when the supermarket removed single-use plastic shopping bags from all stores nationwide.
