The Federal Government has announced an extra 39 aged care beds for the South Burnett.

Southern Cross Care Murgon (Castra) has received 20 bed allocations and Southern Cross Care Nanango (Karinya) has received an extra 19.

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said the Castra beds were part of an extra 521 allocations across the Wide Bay electorate.

The others are in Noosa, Maryborough and Gympie.

The Karinya beds are part of Maranoa’s allocations.

Mr O’Brien said the allocations would provide a welcome boost to aged care services.

“Each of these new places will mean local seniors and their families can have more confidence, knowing they have future care options in locations as close as possible to the communities they know and love,” he said.

“I congratulate our local aged care providers on securing these new aged care places and I look forward to seeing the benefits of this funding flow to our community.”
