Murgon Crusaders are through to the Grand Final in the A Grade Gympie Cricket competition after downing Gympie Colts in the semi-final played at Murgon Sportsground last Saturday.

Colts now face Gympie Harlequins at Kozminsky Oval in Gympie this weekend to determine the second spot.

Murgon won the one-day Gympie competition last year and dominated in the fixture rounds again this season.

They notched up 13 outright victories from 15 games, finishing on top of the ladder.

On Saturday, they came up against second placegetters Gympie Colts, who were only defeated three times during the rounds.

Murgon won the toss and batted first.

The day belonged to rep player Ashley Sippel who showed his class by finishing not out with 111 runs.

Kurt McArthur (32) was next best with the bat.

At the end of their 40 overs, Murgon were 8/206.

In reply, all Colts’ batsmen made a start but the Murgon bowlers kept them in check.

Jamian Currin (1/15 off seven overs) bowled three valuable maiden overs, while Bryce Edwards (2/21 off six) and Graham Brown (2/39 off eight) also proved effective.

Chris Medcalf, Jason Webber, Zac Dann and Ashley Sippel each took a wicket.

Colts fell just short of the target, finishing 9/186.

The Grand Final in the Gympie A Grade competition will be played at Kosminsky Oval in Gympie on March 9.

Murgon’s Lehman Brunjes didn’t have the best of days at the crease … he was caught out for a duck after only facing a handful of balls
