A man aged in his 60s was airlifted after being trampled by a cow south on a private property south of Gympie on Saturday afternoon.

The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was despatched just before 2:00pm.

A LifeFlight spokesperson said it was believed the property owner was trying to separate a calf from its mother when the cow ran down the man and stomped on him.

Ambulance paramedics initially treated the patient on the scene, before the LifeFlight crew arrived.

LifeFlight’s Critical Care doctor treated the man for a serious head, chest and multiple limb injuries.

He was airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
