FLASHBACK: Frances Wilmot was a storyreader at Wondai Library’s 50th birthday celebrations in October 2012 … the library will be moving across the road to Wondai Town Hall’s office area in the next few months

February 19, 2019

Wondai Library will move from its current location in Mackenzie Street across the road to the South Burnett Regional Council’s offices during the next few months.

The move was announced by Mayor Keith Campbell on Tuesday.

Work on upgrading Council’s offices next to Wondai Town Hall to accommodate the library is expected to begin in early March, and will be finished by May if all goes to plan.

Cr Ros Heit said the move aimed to make better use of staff resources.

“Library staff will be able to cover for Council administrative staff during break periods, and vice versa,” she said.

“The result should be better service for residents.”

A similar move occurred in Murgon when the Dermot Tiernan Memorial Library shifted after Council amalgamation.

After the move is completed, the existing Col Morris Library building at 78 Mackenzie Street will be used as a Council storage space.

Col Morris was Shire Clerk at the former Wondai Shire Council from 1948 to 1975.

It is being funded by a grant from the State Government’s Works for Queensland Round 2.
