Farmers are being encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to recycle their used oil.

Waste management company J.J. Richards & Sons offers free oil collections in the South Burnett and Toowoomba council areas, as well as the Balonne, Charleville, Goondiwindi, Southern Downs, Lockyer Valley and Western Downs regions.

Queensland Farmers’ Federation president Stuart Armitage said the initiative had already collected more than 30,000 litres of used oil from farms across the State.

“This program assists farmers to manage a difficult waste stream generated from farming operations and reduce its on-farm hazard potential,” Mr Armitage said.

“Waste oils can pose environmental harm if not adequately stored or disposed of and during natural disasters, including flood and fire, can pose significant health and safety risks.”

To arrange the free collection of used oil, contact J.J. Richards & Sons on 0458-123-450.
