There’s some good news for Kingaroy’s hotel and motels … the extremely successful Kingaroy Soccer Sevens two-day carnival will be back in 2019!
The carnival, organised by the Kingaroy Senior Soccer Club for more than 30 years, usually attracts teams from Brisbane, Hervey Bay, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast to compete in three divisions: Open Men, Women and Over 35s.
But a major hiccup over fees, outside the control of the local organisers, meant the carnival didn’t go ahead in 2018.
Carnival convener Thomas Carroll told southburnett.com.au these issues had been sorted out and the popular carnival will be back as usual in 2019, on February 23-24.
The only other possible threat to the event would be rain … the carnival was washed out in 2012 and 2015.
In 2017, about 40 teams registered for the hotly contested event, which players traditionally use as a pre-season warm-up.
In the meantime, South Burnett players have been keeping fit, practising their skills and having fun in a Summer Sevens competition being played on Wednesday evenings under lights at Tom Alford Oval in Kingaroy.
This social comp is up to Round 7 this week, with two more rounds to go.
