South Burnett residents are being encouraged to get into the festive spirit and enter this year’s Hancock Prospecting Christmas Lights competition.
The competition boasts a grand prize of a family holiday to Singapore to the value of $15,000, thanks to Hancock Prospecting and the Georgina Hope Foundation.
The holiday is for two adults and two children (up to 12 years) and includes return economy flights from Brisbane to Singapore, five nights’ accommodation at the Shangri La Hotel with breakfast daily, return private transfers between Singapore Airport and the Shangri La Hotel, High Tea at Raffles and comprehensive travel insurance.
In partnership, Council is supplying prizes of $100 for first and $50 for second in the following categories:
- Kingaroy urban and rural (including Kumbia, Wooroolin and Memerambi)
- Nanango urban and rural (including Maidenwell and Bunya Mountains)
- Blackbutt urban and rural (including Benarkin)
- Wondai urban and rural (including Hivesville, Tingoora and Proston)

Entries must be received before next Thursday (November 29).
Competitors will then need to have their lights on display for judging from Monday, December 3, to Monday, December 10, between 7:00pm and 10:00pm.
Businesses are also encouraged to participate and will be featured on the map of entries, but are not eligible for prizes.
Previous winners of the grand prize are also not eligible to win again this year.
Entries will be judged on presentation, layout, visual appeal (the “wow” factor), best use of space, imagination and theme.
Full details, terms and conditions and nomination forms are available on Council’s website or by visiting any Council Customer Service Centre or library.
