Handsome young men, pretty girls and fancy cars … it must be the formal season in the South Burnett!

Year 12 students from St Mary’s Catholic College in Kingaroy held their annual valedictory dinner at the Kingaroy Town Hall on Tuesday evening.

St Mary’s traditionally is the first of the South Burnett high schools to hold its formal, but this year Nanango State High School went early, beating it to the punch.

The St Mary’s students and their partners arrived in style in Glendon Street, alighting at the foot of a red carpet which extended the length of the Town Hall Forecourt.

There was none of the more unusual choices of conveyance, ie. horses or semi-trailers, but there was an exciting assortment of very desirable Fords and Holdens, and even the odd Morris and Chevy.

Family members and friends snapped photos as the students walked up the carpet towards the Town Hall, pausing every now and then to chat.

A running commentary about the vehicles, dresses and “fun facts” about the students was provided by Damien Martoo, from The Martoo Review (and St Mary’s P&F), and music teacher Jane Iszlaub.
