Low-interest disaster loans are now available to primary producers affected by the October storms

October 29, 2018

Natural disaster assistance – including low-interest loans up to $250,000 – is now available to primary producers directly affected by the severe storms that struck the South Burnett on October 11-14.

The loans can help primary producers cover the cost of repairing or replacing damaged plant and equipment, repairing or replacing buildings, and buying livestock to replace any lost in the storms.

The loans can also assist with “carry-on” requirements including re-planting, restoring or re-establishing areas affected by the disaster, sustenance, essential property operations, and paying rent and rates.

The initial annual interest rate for the Wide Bay-Burnett Severe Storms event is 1.37 per cent.

The maximum term is seven years (up to two years may be interest-only)

Loans must be secured by a mortgage of land and other assets, satisfactory to the Queensland Rural Industry Development Authority, but there are no establishment fees, early payout charges or account maintenance fees.

To be eligible to apply, primary producers must have received direct damage from the storms and be located in either the South Burnett Regional Council, Gympie Regional Council or Fraser Coast Regional Council areas.
