South Burnett junior footballers travelled to Hervey Bay last week to take part in the quirky Joeys Mini World Cup.
The five-day annual tournament – which was held at Inverell in NSW for the past eight years – is the brainchild of tournament director Heinrich Haussler who came up with the idea after a trip to Germany.
It is based on a youth tournament that was held by the German Football Federation in 2006 during the FIFA World Cup.
The young players don jerseys representing various World Cup teams.
The year, various South Burnett teams played as Belgium, Croatia, Uruguay and France.
Junior players from (the real) Germany also took part in the carnival.
At the end of the week, Heinrich announced Hervey Bay would be hosting the event again in 2019.

Four South Burnett players won a $1000 subsidy to take part in the Joeys All Star Tour to Germany in June 2019: Nathan Copas, Lachlan Hurt, Stella Heathwood and Elle Mollenhauer.
Two South Burnett coaches were also invited to join the Joeys All Star team for the German tour.
Each coach will receive a $1500 subsidy: Danielle Maudsley (South Burnett) and Callum Shute (Barambah).
