October 5, 2018

South Burnett cricketers will be taking to ovals around the region for the first time this year on Saturday with the official start of the local season.

There will be eight B Grade teams in action in the South Burnett, one more than last season.

The competition will be played across three rounds (21 games) plus finals.

The eighth team marks the return of Warriors, who will be known in 2018-19 as the Kallindale Warriors.

It will be made up of Warriors’ regulars plus some ex-players returning to the game.

The other teams in the B Grade comp are last year’s champions, Blackbutt Timbertowners, as well as grand finalist Cherbourg, Murgon District, Kumbia Rattlers, Wondai, Kingaroy Services and Nanango Scorpions.

This weekend:

  • Kallindale Warriors v Murgon District at Lyle Vidler Oval, Kingaroy
  • Kumbia Rattlers v Wondai at Kumbia
  • Nanango Scorpions v Cherbourg at Nanango
  • Blackbutt Timbertowners v Kingaroy Services at Blackbutt

All games will start at 12:30pm.

Following last year’s successful debut, two South Burnett A Grade teams – Kingaroy and Murgon – will again be playing in the Gympie competition this year.

The South Burnett teams dominated last season, with Murgon winning the one-day and Kingaroy taking out the two-day competition.

There will be a new look for this season with all games played as 40-over, one-day matches.

Players will also be ditching their creams to turn out in coloured uniforms.

Round 1 will start on October 20:

  • Kingaroy v Gympie Colts at Lyle Vidler Oval, Kingaroy
  • Murgon v Gympie Valleys at Murgon Sportsground

All games will start at 12:30pm.
